A Hub for
Surgical Innovation
The American
Association of
Gynecologic
Laparoscopists
recently named AAMC
a center of excellence
in minimally invasive
surgery. To earn this
designation, hospitals
and doctors must
demonstrate a shared
commitment and
ability to consistently
deliver the safest,
highest-quality
evidence-based care.

AAMC recently achieved
Magnet
®
recognition
from the American Nurses
Credentialing Center.
Magnet is a designation for
excellence in nursing care
achieved by only 6 percent
of hospitals.
“This recognition
reinforces the patient- and
family-centered care that
is a cornerstone of how
we serve our community,”
says Tori Bayless, AAMC’s
president and CEO. “It’s also
the tangible evidence of
our nurses’ commitment to
providing the very best care to
our patients, of which we are
extremely proud.”
Magnet recognition has
been shown to provide specific
benefits to hospitals and their
communities, such as:
››
higher patient satisfaction
››
lower mortality and
complication rates
››
higher job satisfaction
among nurses
››
lower nurse turnover and
fewer vacancies

Starting July 1, 2015, AAMC will take a leadership position
as a major employer in Maryland and stop hiring nicotine
users. This policy does not apply to current employees
who use tobacco.
“As healthcare providers, we have a unique perspective
on the issues surrounding chronic disease,” says John
Martin, MD, AAMC’s
medical director of
vascular surgery.
“We not only treat
disease, but we are
also role models for
healthy behavior in our
community. It is only
right to practice what
we preach.”
Becoming a

to train 93 future physicians.
