Mental health conditions, including depression, bipolar
disorder, anxiety disorders, and substance abuse, have
become some of the most prevalent and dangerous diseases
threatening the health of our community. The AAMC
Foundation’s Community Outreach Council is making a real
difference in the fight for mental health by raising awareness
and funds needed to build and grow a strong mental health
program in this community.
“It is extremely important that we remove the stigma
associated with mental illness and substance use and provide
the much-needed support to those patients and their families
suffering from the effects of mental health and addiction
issues,” according to local business leaders and Community
Outreach Council members Chuck and Sandy Goodman.
The Goodmans recently hosted a fundraising event in their
home with many local leaders, including former Governor
Bob and Kendel Ehrlich, who spoke about the need to
come together as a community to support needed mental
healthcare services.
“In a recent Community Health Needs Assessment
conducted by the Healthy Anne Arundel Coalition, leaders,
social workers, and healthcare professionals identified
mental health as one of the top critical healthcare needs in
the region,” says AAMC President and CEO Tori Bayless.
“We are building a high-quality program to provide the care
needed, but we cannot do it without donation support from
our friends and neighbors who call this area home.”
