Anne Arundel Diagnostics Imaging
(AADI) performs digital mammograms
exclusively at each of its locations.
All mammograms are read by board-
certified radiologists who specialize in
mammography, an important cancer
screening and diagnostic tool.
The American Cancer Society
recommends that women begin having
this annual breast exam at age 40. Patients
who are at a higher risk may be advised to
undergo earlier screening.
All mammograms start the same way—
with an x-ray of the breast—but digital
mammograms process images differently
from film screen mammograms and use
less radiation.
“Because digital images are recorded
and stored on a computer, radiologists
can adjust the individual computer
images, including contrast and
magnification, to see findings more
clearly,” says Daina Pack, M.D., medical
director of AADI. “The extra clarity often
reduces the number of women asked to
return for additional tests.”
Some studies show that digital
mammography may be more accurate in
finding breast cancer in women under 50
and in women with dense breast tissue.

Early detection of breast cancer
with screening mammography means
that treatment can be started earlier
in the course of the disease. Results
from randomized clinical trials and
other studies show that screening
mammography can help reduce the
number of deaths from breast cancer
among women ages 40 to 74.
