many years, Adrian Park, M.D.,
says he discovered a “gem in
his own backyard” with AAMC.
An international leader

new medical devices for complex hernia repair and
spleen and adrenal surgery. With more than 20 patents
to his credit, Dr. Park is continually advancing the
field to make it less invasive, more efficient, better
for patients, and better for surgeons who perform
these challenging procedures.

growth of surgical services and fostering innovation
and learning in the department. He has authored
more than 200 scientific articles and book
chapters and is co-editor in chief of the journal

.
What does this mean for AAMC? We asked
Dr. Park about his plans.
Q
.
What influenced your decision to come to AAMC?
A
.
The quality of leadership here is quite impressive,
as is AAMC’s unique culture of care and collegial
working environment. AAMC takes quality outcomes
and the patient experience very seriously.
Q
.
What’s the difference between AAMC and a major
teaching hospital?
A
.
Our size and independence make us more nimble
and innovative in ways that larger, university-based
hospitals cannot be. AAMC is well-positioned to
contribute to advances in surgery in groundbreaking
ways and participate in the national healthcare dialogue.
Q
.
 How does our region benefit?
A
.
First, you have to be very good at what you
do, and we are. We set the bar of excellence across
surgical outcomes, patient experience, efficiencies,
quality, and safety. AAMC has some of the highest
patient satisfaction scores in the U.S. Now it’s about
providing mentorship and support for staff and
fostering more research projects with findings
presented regionally and nationally. Through
our commitment to and involvement with the
community, we are able to represent its needs
in the broader healthcare community. And with
AAMC’s excellent facility, quality staff, vision of
leadership, and tremendous community support,
we are in a position to think big thoughts—and
achieve them.
