‘Befriending’ the AAMC Outreach Clinic
AAMC thrives because donors recognize the importance of
ensuring that everyone in our community has the benefit of great
health care. The Friends Foundation is an excellent example of
community philanthropy in action, truly making a difference.
The Friends Foundation has supported AAMC for several years,
giving more than $160,000. This support recently included a
$100,000 gift to support our Outreach Clinic, which provides health
and dental care for people in our area who cannot afford care.

Gala Raises More Than $770,000
On April 28, the Rhythm & Rouge Gala raised
more than $770,000 to benefit AAMC’s Heart
& Vascular Institute. The AAMC Foundation
welcomed more than 850 guests to the Hyatt
Regency in Baltimore. This marks the gala’s most
successful event in its 46-year history.

AAMC Salutes a Commander’s Legacy
On June 2, our community lost a true philanthropist and AAMC
lost a dear friend. Al Vittek was a decorated naval commander in
World War II, retiring from active duty in 1962. After his career
in the Navy, Cmdr. Vittek became a successful stockbroker with the
company then known as Alex. Brown. Starting with his first gift of
$50 in 1987, over a span of 25 years, Vittek generously contributed
more than $1 million to support AAMC programs, people and facilities.
Among his greatest passions was his support for nursing, which grew
in part from his daughter’s career as a nurse. Vittek donated more than
$300,000 over the years to provide scholarships to deserving AAMC
nurses. He became the “dean” of the AAMC Nursing Scholarship
program. A brave patriot, a brilliant businessman, a true and generous
philanthropist, Vittek will be missed by many.
