Stepping Up
TeamSTEPPS Strengthens Communication and Patient Care
In health care, you can have the best technology money can buy,
but it’s useless without a talented team to go with it.
That’s why AAMC invests in both state-of-the-art medical
equipment and staff training.
“It’s vital that every member of our team feels empowered to
speak up if something doesn’t look right,” says Holly Greever, RN,
a labor and delivery nurse who helped implement TeamSTEPPS
training at AAMC.
TeamSTEPPS, which stands for Team Strategies and Tools to
Enhance Performance and Patient Safety, is an evidence-based
system that provides healthcare teams with tools to improve
communication and work effectively as a group
.
“We’re trained to look for problems and offer solutions,”
Greever says. “We trust each other, and that translates into
better clinical results.”
And that, in turn, means better care for you.
Embracing ecologically kind practices isn’t just a one-time thing;
it’s a long-term commitment. AAMC is proud to be a leader in
environmental responsibility. The first hospital in Maryland to
open a LEED Gold-Certified patient care tower, AAMC also fosters
sustainable practices such as widespread recycling on campus
and environmentally friendly practices in our operating rooms.
And we’ve received multiple awards for our efforts.
Our newest innovation isn’t low-flow sinks or a green roof—it’s
a person. AAMC recently appointed Charlotte Wallace, RN, its first
sustainability coordinator. A pediatric nurse and chairwoman of
AAMC’s green initiative, the E.A.R.T.H. Advisors, Wallace is now
devoted to our mission to find ways to be green.
Her approach: When it comes to greener health care, small
things really add up. “Everyone has to understand how their little
piece interacts with and affects the sustainability of the hospital
as a whole,” Wallace says.
At AAMC, we’re always on the lookout for talented,
compassionate professionals to join our team. To search
