Quick Response
Our Team Takes Heart Attack Symptoms Seriously
When it comes to a heart attack, time is muscle.
Imagine if the heart team at your hospital could spring
into action before you even arrive.
At AAMC, that’s exactly what happens, thanks to the
innovative portable EKG (electrocardiogram) system
called LifeNet.
AAMC donated the technology to local paramedics, allowing
emergency medical services teams to send EKG results to
AAMC while patients are en route. This prompts the heart
team to prepare for action.
Check out
askAAMC.org/heartandvascular
, where you can
watch and listen to cardiologist Jonathan A. Altschuler, M.D.,
describe the warning signs of a heart attack and how LifeNet
leads to fast action, which often leads to better outcomes
for patients.
When it comes to your heart, you’re in good hands at AAMC.

to learn more about how AAMC is changing health care for you, your family and our community.
At Anne Arundel Medical Center
(AAMC), we’re putting our care
under a microscope to uncover
better ways of doing things.
What have we discovered? By far
the most valuable improvements
turn out to be personal.
Our philosophy of providing patient- and
family-centered care has led to developments in
communication and teamwork, resulting in a better
patient experience. For example, our Pediatric
Emergency Department’s child life specialist
works to ease the fears of kids and their families
by helping them cope (read more on page 15).
We also collaborate with local businesses,
government and community organizations to provide
you with accessible, coordinated care. You can benefit
from these partnerships by taking one of the many
classes we offer to help you live healthier (see pages 9
through 11). We have something for everyone!
When you think of innovation in health care, you
might imagine space-age technology or a futuristic
medical device. And while investing in state-of-the-art
equipment and highly skilled doctors to perform the
latest procedures will always be a priority, the future
of health care is also finding ways to use technology
in a meaningful way to improve quality and reduce
cost. Turn to page 8 to learn how screenings can help
detect or prevent potentially serious health issues
before they become life-threatening.
Health care is constantly changing. We know that
what worked in the past may not work in the future.
With
Vision 2020
, I invite you and your family to team
up with us so we can all
live healthier together
