Take Control
of Your
Chronic
Condition
In a new study, the Institute
of Medicine highlighted
nine chronic conditions
on the rise in the U.S.
that account for billions
of dollars in healthcare
spending. About 133 million
people in the U.S. have a
chronic disease, and about
25 percent of those people
have two or more.
These conditions include
arthritis, chronic pain,
dementia, post-cancer
complications, depression,
type 2 diabetes, post-
traumatic stress disorder,
schizophrenia, and hearing
and vision loss.
To help patients cope
with these and other
health issues, AAMC offers
several classes and events,
including the six-week
workshop “Living Well With
Chronic Conditions.” Each
session helps participants
set goals, manage fatigue
and pain, communicate
better with their doctors,
decrease frustration, and
improve their lives.
Our next workshops
start June 19 or 21. Learn
about your condition in a
group environment and
receive a free guidebook.
