At the Core of Care
Meet the Visionary Who Helped Build a Medical Park
For almost 30 years, Carolyn Core has held progressive leadership positions for Anne
Arundel Health System. She has been instrumental in the planning, building and opening
of each of AAMC’s medical park buildings, five garages, walkways, and helipad.
Core, who retired in June, leaves us with a legacy of beautiful, safe and
environmentally sound structures—a symbol of excellent health care for the region.
Her passion for incorporating green design features into the construction of Hospital
Pavilion South, which opened in April 2011, earned AAMC the only LEED Gold
Certification for an acute care facility in Maryland. In addition, Core served as
president of Anne Arundel Diagnostics Imaging twice since 1984.
“I’ve had a wonderful career,” Core says. “I started in health care at 17 years old as a
radiologic technologist. I never dreamed I would become a senior vice president. Thank
you to our teams as we’ve hoped, dreamed and realized what these buildings could be.
My heart is with this organization. My advice is to be fair, keep learning and keep a
little Disney in your day.”
